I'll respond to why I voted Prius over Jetta.

I had no issues in voting in a biased manner after all GreenHuman had no problem producing a biased comparison.

I vote against making a big deal of the push button start, what were you thinking when you did that?

I voted for a quiet idle, well actually a silent idle.

I voted for a flexible hatchback design.

I voted for the lowest emissions and the lowest spend at the pump.

I drive 37km each way across town each day through 40 sets of traffic lights, and a couple of stop signs. I get better than 4.4L/100km on my daily commute and when I hit the open road, which I do more in my Prius than I have in any other car, I average 5.2L/100km. I don't mess about with many fuel saving tricks either, I just drive smooth but with the traffic, I enjoy winning traffic light drags up to the speed limit though.

I'm an ex-motor mechanic, I quit the trade and drive Toyota because I'm sick of fixing cars. Yes I have had the displeasure of fixing VWs and VW diesels, not fun. I'm glad I don't have a turbo car too.

I'll stick with the reliable, economical Toyota Prius, I might even buy a new 2010 Prius and pass this car to my wife, The 2010 Prius from all reports will be a much better car than even the near perfect current Prius.

I'd say, like most Prius owners that also post on PriusChat, we like all green car initiatives.

Now take BMW's B200 2009, that has an automatic CVT, with a 2.0l 4 cyl, that gets a paltry 24MPG.
And costs more money than a Camry Hybrid.

Compare that to the Jetta TDI tested by GreenHuman.net folks, and you can appreciate the good hard work Volkwagon has done, and how BMW is giving humanity a collective Up Yours.

It might be more enlightening if you visited www.priuschat.com and asked the question there. Don't worry, the moderators are fair and the Prius community enthusiastic and well mannered.

We've already got a fairly long thread, "Internet Poll: Prius vs Jetta," that gives some idea about what the member has been thinking. At least you'll have a chance to understand our point of view before the dialog begins.

There is a driving skill specific group, CleanMPG.com, who may also want to discuss technique.

You may also want to consider visiting www.ecomodder.com that has a thread by "Top Gear" USA who transplanted a Jetta TDI engine into a Rabbit for a 7-7-7 test. They wanted to keep it under $7,000; 7 seconds to 60 and; 70 MPG at 70 mph (if I remember correctly.) I'm sure they would love to read about your test.

Finally, there is a non-specific, hybrid group, www.greenhybrid.com. But this includes everyone from 'mild' GM hybrids through a couple of Lexus owners. But if you are Prius specific, I would recommend www.priuschat.com

I voted Prius because after 20 years of smelly diesel I wanted something cleaner, quiteter, smoother.

After 4 years and 90.000 miles my choice has proven to be more economical than expected, thanks to the fewer maintenance that the Prius needs.

Even when diesel is cheaper than petrol (Which is NOT your case).

It's goodbye diesels for me.
